Comunità "Madre del Buon Consiglio"
The community of Capodimonte was born out of the fusion of the Handmaids of the Church with the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts. The Congregation of the Handmaids of the Church was founded by the Servant of God, Mother Mary of Jesus Landi (1861-1931), who, from her very young age, had a profound devotion to Our Lady of Good Counsel. The devotion to Our Lady of Good Counsel strongly development in Naples at that time, due to the epidemic disease of cholera that inflicted the populace then, who implored for their protection, not only from cholera, but also from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the dangers of war. Thus, they obtained many blessings and graces through the intercession of Our Lady of Good Counsel. The decreasing number of the Handmaids of the Church eventually led to the fusion with the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts. This fusion was initiated in 1996 by Mo. Vittoria Noviello, Superior General of the Handmaids of the Church and Mo. Giovanna Zippo, Superior General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts. With the decree of the Archbishop, Cardinal Michele Giordano, the fusion was completed. The Sisters, with their Franciscan spirit, continued with fervor and enthusiasm the apostolate of Mother Landi, who was able to put up a school and an orphanage alongside the convent.
